Intern Program

At Nelson Financial, we believe in investing in the next generation of professionals in our community. Our internship program gives students the opportunity to gain real-world experience in financial services, learn how a professional office operates, and contribute to meaningful projects and day-to-day work. Along the way, interns work alongside our team, build practical skills, and gain a better understanding of how financial planning serves individuals, families, and businesses in Northeastern Colorado. Our goal is to provide an experience that helps prepare them for wherever their education and career may take them.

Derrick Pierce

Summer 2018

Derrick joined Nelson Financial as an intern while studying Accounting at the University of Northern Colorado, with the goal of becoming a CPA. Growing up in Northeastern Colorado, he brought an understanding of the rural lifestyle and the financial needs of families and businesses in the area.

Kinlie Lewis

Summer 2021

Kinlie joined Nelson Financial as a summer intern in 2021 after earning her Associate’s Degree in Agriculture Business from Northeastern Junior College. A Northeastern Colorado native, she continued her education at South Dakota State University in Ag Business and Leadership, bringing her strong agricultural background and understanding of rural communities to her time with Nelson Financial.

Joey Steger

Summers 2010 & 2021

Joey interned with Nelson Financial during the summers of 2010 and 2011, gaining hands-on business experience and helping develop the business plan for Crystal Care. He later served as a Senior Financial Manager at JBS and went on to work as a Senior Cost Accountant and Production Analyst with Meyer Natural Foods.
